Morning ferry to Goree Island (20 minutes). Walk through the historic island with no cars. Visit the House of Slaves and the Door of No Return. See the colonial fort, colonial houses, and the Women's Museum. Afternoon return to Dakar. Visit the Sandaga Market.
Drive to Lake Retba (1 hour) - known as the Pink Lake due to high salt content and Dunaliella salina algae. Take a boat ride on the pink water. See salt harvesters working in the lake (women collecting salt). Optional swim (you float like in the Dead Sea). Visit a local Wolof village.
Drive to Sine Saloum Delta (3 hours) - a UNESCO World Heritage site. Check into your eco-lodge in the mangroves. Afternoon boat safari through the delta to see thousands of migratory birds (pelicans, flamingos, herons, kingfishers). Visit a shell island (islands made entirely of oyster shells).
Morning kayaking through the mangrove channels. Visit a Serer fishing village to learn about traditional fishing techniques. Lunch of fresh oysters and grilled fish. Afternoon visit to Fathala Wildlife Reserve (optional) to see giraffes, rhinos, and antelopes.
Morning birdwatching walk. Breakfast and checkout. Drive back to Dakar (3 hours). Last chance souvenir shopping at Soumbédioune Market (arts and crafts). Transfer to Blaise Diagne International Airport for departure.
