Three days of travel talk at Sarit Expo Centre
From 29 to 31 October 2026, the Main Hall at Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands, Nairobi, turned into a showcase for East African travel. The Getaway Tourism Fair, under the tagline "Discover Your Next Adventure", brought hoteliers, airlines, tour operators and travel agents under one roof, with free entry for visitors and more than 3,000 guests expected by the organisers. The Day Safaris Adventures team was there, and it was a pleasure to meet so many travellers and partners in person.
What the fair is about
Getaway is built around a simple idea: put the people who sell and run holidays in the same room as the people planning them. Safari and adventure operators, hotels, resorts, beach destinations, camps and airlines each had a stand, and there was an official opening ceremony on Friday, 30 October. Magical Kenya and the Kenya Tourism Board endorsed the event, and Barbados was among the destinations on the floor alongside the High Commission of India. The Kenya Association of Travel Agents was listed as a supporting partner.
For a traveller, that means one afternoon can answer questions that would normally take weeks of emails: which lodge suits a family with young children, what a realistic budget looks like for a Maasai Mara migration trip, or how to combine a safari with a few days at the coast.
Life at the Day Safaris Adventures stand
Our stand was a warm, lantern-lit corner of the hall, with soft white roses on the counter and brochures ready to take home. Our hosts, in their brown Day Safaris Adventures T-shirts and caps, spent the days doing what we enjoy most: listening. Visitors pulled out their phones to show us trips they had saved, dates they were considering and places they had always wanted to see, and we talked them through routes, seasons and what each option really costs.
Some of the best conversations were also the quietest ones, a visitor leaning over the counter with a pen, noting down contact details so we could follow up with a proper written quote after the fair rather than rushing a plan on the spot.
Good neighbours and good company
Part of the fun of a fair like this is who you end up next to. Around our stand were Neptune Hotels, Medina Palms and Bonfire Adventures, and a banner for TAWI Lodge in Amboseli with Kilimanjaro rising behind a herd of elephants. Seeing lodges, adventure companies and tour operators trade ideas across the aisle is a reminder that a good trip is usually a team effort: the guide, the camp, the transfer and the flight all have to work together.
